Cookie Policy
Last updated: April 16, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Detectly, a product operated by EcomTuc (“we”, “us”), uses cookies and similar technologies (1) across Shopify storefronts on which Detectly is installed and (2) on this website, getdetectly.com.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored in a browser. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixels. They allow services to recognize a browser across requests and retain small amounts of information.
2. Cookies Detectly sets on merchant storefronts
When a merchant installs Detectly on their Shopify store, the Detectly Web Pixel and theme app extension may set the following first-party identifiers in the visitor's browser:
| Name | Purpose | Retention | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
_rtk_vid | Long-lived visitor ID used to stitch sessions of the same user for attribution. | 365 days | Analytics |
_rtk_sid | Short-lived session ID used to group events within a single visit. | 30 minutes | Analytics |
_rtk_attr (localStorage) | Stores the most recent UTM parameters, click IDs, referrer, and landing page for first-touch / last-touch attribution. | Up to 90 days | Analytics |
Cart attributes prefixed __rtk_ | Persist UTM and click-ID context across the Shopify checkout so orders can be correctly attributed. | Lifetime of the cart / checkout | Strictly necessary (attribution) |
These identifiers are not shared with third parties and do not contain personally identifiable information by themselves.
3. Consent handling
Detectly honors the Shopify Customer Privacy API. When a storefront visitor has not granted analytics or marketing consent:
-
Long-lived identifiers (
_rtk_vid, localStorage attribution) are not written. - First-party events are not sent to Detectly's backend.
- Cart attributes carrying UTM context may still be written, as these are necessary to fulfill the transaction the visitor is attempting (legitimate interest / contract performance basis).
4. Cookies on this website
The marketing site at getdetectly.com is static and does not currently set any cookies or tracking identifiers. If we add privacy-friendly analytics in the future (e.g. Plausible, Fathom), we will update this policy.
5. How to control cookies
Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies through their settings. On Shopify stores, the merchant's cookie banner (if present) controls Detectly's consent state via the Customer Privacy API. Blocking all cookies may impair store functionality that is unrelated to Detectly.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above.
